Tamar Zenith, Director
Tamar has been passionate about the visual arts in Canada for over 20 years. She continues to be an active force in the Calgary art scene and looks forward to the next 20 years promoting leading names in Contemporary art. Upon graduating McGill University in 1992 and opening Newzones alongside her Mother, Helen Zenith, Tamar has worked tirelessly to promote the gallery's artists both at home and abroad and build Newzones into one of North America's leading contemporary commercial art galleries. Tamar's artistic taste, business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit have inspired several articles in such publications as the Globe and Mail, the National Post, the Calgary Herald, Azure, Avenue, Western Living, Canadian Art, Border Crossing, Galleries West and many more. Also, distinguished and best-selling author Joanne Thomas Yaccato included Tamar in her book on female entrepreneurs entitled, "Raising Your Business: A Canadian Woman's Guide to Entrepreneurship". Tamar is proud of the role Newzones and its artists have played in the city of Calgary and the work they have done together to diffuse the image of "the Wild West" into a "West" that's elegant, cosmopolitan, and vibrant - A "West", where contemporary artists live and work while producing world-class art. Tamar remains committed to the development and enhancement of Canadian Art, and is very proud of the gallery's role in making Canadian Art a contributor in the international art market. Tamar has sat on the board of Aids Calgary, been a member of the Chancellor's Club at the University of Calgary, a member of the President's circle at the Alberta College of Art and Design and a member of the prestigious YEO. Most recently she was also awarded the inaugural West Island College Alumni Achievement Award. In 2012, Tamar and Helen Zenith established the "Newzones Gallery of Contemporary Art Fund" at The Calgary Foundation which will contribute to a wide range of charitable organizations that support Calgary's Visual Art's Community.
