Newzones Gallery of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce “KIN”, a solo exhibition by Marie Lannoo.
At first glance, grass just looks green. When you look a little closer however, you begin to notice that there are many different shades of green that when combined, equal green. Each blade is affected by light, by location and by surrounding blades. It is the cumulative effect of these interconnected blades that make what we see as green possible.
Through the series “KIN”, Marie Lannoo uses the language of color to accumulate, connect, combine, transform, and interact. By breaking down each hue into incremental parts of increasing intensity and then layering each part over others, different iterations of one color interact with other colors in a slow, steady chromatic progression. One color transforms into another through connection, accumulation, and interaction. Much like us!
Lannoo was born in 1954 in Delhi, Ontario. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and studied painting at the Banff School of Arts as well as in Virton, Belgium. Her work has been shown in exhibitions throughout Canada including a solo exhibition at the Mendel Art Gallery, which toured internationally. Her work has been collected by The Government of Alberta, Canada Council Art Bank, University of Saskatchewan, and many more.
