Karine Léger
Karine Léger is a Canadian artist based in Montreal, Quebec.
Léger’s pictorial practice explores the dialogue between form, colour, and texture in a continuous search for balance and visual calm. A former graphic designer, she has devoted herself entirely to painting since the early 2000s, developing an abstract language informed by nature and northern landscapes. Travels to Northern Quebec and Iceland have profoundly shaped her sensibility, revealing a fascination with vast spaces, shifting light, and organic forms — elements she translates into compositions of quiet strength and elegance.
Léger approaches the canvas as a site of introspective exploration. Her process begins with the collection of visual fragments (textures, colours, and fleeting impressions) which she notes and later translates into collages and painted forms. Through layered transparencies and overlapping motifs, she constructs a subtle balance between structure and spontaneity. Each form seems distinct yet gently converges with others, suggesting a moment of
encounter or passage.
At once minimalist and rich in material presence, her works evoke mental landscapes where gesture and intuition merge into a language of sensitivity. For Léger, deconstruction becomes a path to reconstruction; a meditative search for harmony between what is seen and what is felt.
